Work Experience
August 1996 - Present
Founder / Project Manager / Web Developer
Abbreviated portfolio of clients and projects:
-
I was solely responsible for the implementation of
CSS/XHTML/JavaScript front-end along with infrastructure back-end using
MySQL and PHP inside the CakePHP MVC framework. Read more in the
The Tru Health
web development case study.
-
I was solely responsible for the implementation
of CSS/XHTML/JavaScript front-end along with the infrastructure back-end
using MySQL and PHP. We chose CakePHP as the MVC framework for it's
PHP language (the fact PHP is well known by other developers), quick and
easy caching implementation, and speed of development timelines.
-
Responsibilities include project management of
50 projects at any one time, including approximately 350 people and
their enjoyable quirks as clients, partners, and co-workers. I've helped
create and document systems for project management which has decreased the
time for implementation (and therefore the cost) down approximately
50% of what it was prior to my arrival.
Land Rover (Seattle, Bellevue, Spokane)
I was solely responsible for developing a
database driven website which would be used by three auto dealerships.
The public interface consisted of a PHP front-end extracting
information from a MySQL database. The project also included an
administrative interface whereby each dealership used web-based
forms (also driven by PHP and MySQL) to add, edit, and remove
inventory data, including text and photos, effectively controlling
their public website. The forms included data validation schemes
and a secure log-in.
-
J. Garner Photography requested an easy way to
create online photo albums for his wedding clients. They did not
want a full web interface and were comfortable with uploading photos
via FTP. I created one PHP-based webpage which would detect the file
type and size of images which were placed into a specific directory
and allow the user to sequentially browse through the photos within
their own customized online photo album, resizing the framing of the
photo as necessary. J. Garner Photography was only required to
include a copy of the PHP page and a directory containing the photos
inside a unique directory name.
-
The Hovde's requested a web site developed
for a 14 story condominium project being built in downtown Bellingham, WA.
The project called for administration from a login protected section
of the website which would allow modification of condo unit availability
and price. It also required a contact form which emailed validated
user submitted information to their assistants. The time sensitive project
was completed well within the allotted 2 week timeline.
-
This project required a custom-built PHP-based
content management system to facilitate frequent modification of
website content. As project manager and senior web developer, I
hired outside designers and editors, initiated hosting and domain
name accounts, and programmed the interface for interaction with a
MySQL database within a Linux and Apache environment. Development
included an email based subscription and newsletter delivery system
as well as an events calendar.
-
The Pale requested a content management system
and new design for their website. The project was completed using
ASP (3.0) in connection with an MS Access database on a Windows NT
server. Features included a custom guestbook, calendar of events
and upcoming concerts, news release page, and an e-commerce storefront
utilizing Paypals shopping cart and payment processing.
-
The Olympia Diocese requested a project which would
allow users to send an e-card to a specified email address. The
project was completed in Cold Fusion where notification was sent to
the recipient that an e-card was waiting for them at a particular
URL. The system allowed users to choose from pre-selected photos
and customize the text of the e-card to their liking. It held the
senders text, chosen photo, and identification number within a MS
SQL database for 30 days from the date of original sending.
July 2006 - September 2007
Web Developer / "That Community Guy"
I was one of 4 front-end web developers primarily
focused on implementing the UI design and functionality of Eventful.com,
the largest events database in the world. Our feature development helped
attract advertisers such as Miller Brewing Co., and performers such as
Mandy Moore, Pretty Ricky, Diddy (Sean Combs), as well as politicians
like Barack Obama, etc. Additionally, I focused much of my efforts
as a community advocate, speaking daily with users and helping push for
positive changes in features and functionality of the site.
February 2003 - April 2007
Founder / Project Manager / Web Developer
I developed all PerfectSpace.com and PropertyEssentials.com
services and business strategies from concept stages to public offerings.
Development includes utilizing Apache software on a Linux server and employing
PHP, XML/SOAP, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL database skills. Specifically,
the languages and database used provide web services to each clients own domain
and hosting account. The clients are able to change their website including the
entire site design, uploading logos, photos, and text via a customized PHP-based
control panel. Additionally, I am responsible for maintaining and implementing
a Linux hosting environment for a variety of small businesses while providing
support and billing as well as contracted design and development services. The
design and development services are fulfilled by composing customized teams of
designers, developers and editors on a project-by-project basis.
Property Essentials successfully sold after separating it from Perfect Space
as a separate entity.
January 2005 - October 2005
Project Manager / Developer
At JellyBarn I was responsible for designing and developing
the architecture for the flagship product as well as external client jobs.
I was responsible for managing customer relationships, designing schematics
and developing MySQL database architecture as well as write PHP and Flash
ActionScript class structures. PHP was the primary scripting language used
in class and object oriented structures integrating with Macromedia Flash as
the user interface. Communication from the database was served through Flash
remoting web services utilizing XML data. I was additionally responsible for
assisting the executives with strategic decisions regarding business
partnerships, clients, and product rollout.
February 2001 - March 2004
Web Developer V (5), Financial Aid Department
I performed complex web design, development, and maintenance
involving PHP and multiple PostgreSQL databases. I was the lead developer and
project manager for the Financial Aid Department, overseeing two other
designer/developers and managing three separate websites including the Center
For Student Work Experience (CSWE)
(
www.finaid.wwu.edu/studentjobs), Financial
Aid Office (
www.finaid.wwu.edu/finaid),
and the Scholarship Center
(
www.finaid.wwu.edu/scholarships).
Development also included the private intranet
user interfaces as well as the public websites. Development typically occurred
on a Linux platform with the Apache web server software. Occasionally development
occurred on a self-administrated Windows 2000 server using a customized
installation and configuration of IIS. As far as we know, our CSWE website was
the first public website to employ filtered and/or searchable RSS/XML feeds. Yahoo!
offered their filtered/searchable RSS feeds approximately 3 months later. I
overhauled the intranet websites and databases required to administrate each site
to include fiscal reporting, easily searchable records, and dynamic Adobe Acrobat
PDF creation of inner-office job cards. I also consulted with end users and
administrators to get usability information, project specifications, and timelines.
